Here is an excerpt from an article I posted on LinkedIn. It is talking about the second of “The Four Agreements” by don Miguel Ruiz.
The Four Agreements are
- Be Impeccable With Your Word
- Don’t Take Anything Personally
- Don’t Make Assumptions
- Always Do Your Best
Don’t take anything personally
Everyone is living their life, looking at it through their lens, and share their viewpoint from where they are at. However, the view of the mountain is different at the bottom than it is at the top. It is also dependent on the weather, the season, and the time of day. This is also very true about what we experience in our every day experiences. So really look at what is around you, listen, smell, taste, and feel before you take someone else’s perspective as your own. Does it match up with your current experience? Even our own thoughts we can’t take personally, as they are from the perspective of ourselves in the past. If the last time you were at the top of the mountain you were in shorts and a t-shirt and perfectly comfortable, would you climb the mountain the same way in the deep of a freezing winter?
